Another Mondavi poster
Here’s the second of the Mondavi posters that I blogged about in the post below. Still don’t get the letter, and the humour doesn’t work for me. As an aside, I suspect the bit of the winery where the Woodbridge Shiraz is made doesn’t look quite like that.Original post by Jamie
Di Majo Norante Sangiovese 2005 wine review by (PB)
This wine is from the Molise region of Italy called the Terra Degli OSCi. It has a fresh cherry bouquet with a nose that smells of burnt wood and smoke with a little pepper. It is fairly big in the mouth with a smoky palate but shallow fruit. With some air instance, Light chocolate and dried cherrie…
Bizarre Mondavi campaign?
Snapped at Waterloo Station that dawn: Mondavi Woodbridge have started a new poster campaign in the UK with what seems a rather weird notice. The two posters I have seen so far are the one above, where a hippy is playing guitar in a vineyard (a barred G chord to be precise), and another where a tour …
Les Hauts de la Brune 2005 wine review by (PB)
This red is from the Coteaux Du Languedoc where wine values abound. It is a purple garnet colored wine with a strawberry like bouquet reminding me of Gamay only with more spine.Out of the gate that wine is bold and big with structure and flavor that is solid. This wine is Syrah 80%, Grenache 10%, an…
Hoya De Cadenas Tempranillo 2003 wine review by (PB)
Black cherry colored wine with black cherry bouquet. It is a bit harsh with coarse tannins, a bit tart and shallow flavors. Not a good wine and worth passing up.(Label on left is for the “Reserva” but is similar)–A Review from The Wine Cask Blog.

Sutter Home Chenin Blanc 2005 wine review by (PB)
This wine was $3.99 and while you may think you can’t get a decent wine for that price, you are wrong. However, in that specific case, you are RIGHT. that wine is sickeningly sweet in a contrived sort of way with a sulfur taste and fake fruit. Sutter Home actually makes really drinkable wine for …
Poggio Al Tufo Rompicollo 2005 wine review by (PB)
This Chianti is a darker cherry red hue with solid Sangiovese bouquet even though it is a blend and the vegetal Cab aromas come out with minerally notes and some pepper. This wine is big and steely with a sweeter fruit flavor out of the gate. that wine is really well made with nice tannins which are…
Meeting Dr Pirie
It has been an odd sort of day. Left home that daylight in driving rain; returned that evening under blue skies.I spent some instance at a portfolio tasting for large agency Stratfords. Had a nice chat with Adam Eggins, chief winemaker at Taylors in the Clare Valley (known by here as Wakefield). Ada…
Trevallon 2000: the real deal
Space on that blog is limited. I usually post just once a day, which means only a assured number of wines can get a look-in each year. It’s for that reason that I’d like to apologise whether you feel I have got the balance wrong: perhaps for not including sufficient of the truly worthy wines, instea…
C’mon City
Just back from Man City v. Fulham at Craven Cottage (BBC report here). A great game of football that finished off 3-3, and which City were unlucky not to win, considering they played by far the best football. I’ve never seen a City side like that. Fluent, composed, with great one-touch passing and …
